My Story

Hi! My name is Azra Vatansever. I was born in USA and now living in Florida, USA. My parents long years ago coming from Turkiye. As a child growing up, I had the opportunity to experience the interactions and differences of a wide range of languages and cultures during our trips and visits to Turkiye. Later on, I began to think about how I could blend my own roots with the language and culture of the country I live in. I decided to take action to bridge cultures from very different social and economic backgrounds and to make a difference.

What I do

This idea originally came from the genuine desire to make a difference, especially in the lives of people that aren’t as fortunate to get that extra education themselves. Growing up bilingual, speaking English and Turkish, has always been one of my biggest strengths, even up until today, and I’ve constantly wanted nothing more than to share that richness with others. I developed this idea, this project because I wanted to bridge the education gap and spread the beauty of language. And by going every summer, these kids received just that.

Every summer, I gather the same group, and additional members that join, in the Kaş Culture Center, and provide interactive lessons based on conversation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension.

I do this through engaging games like Headbands, picture cards, telephone, and other verbal word games.

I also supply them with English books, free of charge, helping them throughout the pages, and encouraging them to participate. Learning goes so much further than in-class activities, as building relationships is just as important. At the end of every summer, when it comes time to wrap up, I treat them to lunch, all families are welcome to join for one last celebration.

My Mission

The primary goal is to provide free, engaging, enjoyable, and immersive English lessons to the primary and middle school students of Kaş, Türkiye. I believe all students deserve access to the education of skills that will guide them to even stronger futures. Even more so when it comes to language, something that can foster self-confidence, curiosity, and cultural bond.

Where is Kaş, Türkiye?

Why Kaş?

The pearl of the Mediterranean is a small town

Kaş was founded by the Lycians, and its name in Lycian language was Habesos. It was a member of the Lycian League and its importance city. In the 200s BC, the Lycian Federation had republican principles.

Centuries later, it attracted the attention of the framers of the United States Constitution and influenced their ideas.

Thank you for supporting the children in our community. We admire your effort to dedicate time each year to guide and spend time with children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, helping them learn English. Words cannot explain how greateful we all here, thank you.
